In what could be a corporate-mandated control of content, Major Nelson has been conspicuously referring to his podcast episodes as “blogcasts”. As a matter of fact, it seems that he goes out of his way to mention blogcast as the primary term. I’ve noticed this over the past two podcasts…erm, blogcasts.

Podcast is the defacto term for downloadable audio content. As a matter of fact, Wikipedia redirects blogcast to podcast. So it’s strange that Major would be the only one on the planet to call them blogcasts, unless it was coming directly from Microsoft HQ.

What this means, if anyone is checking out my de.licio.us page, is it might be further evidence Microsoft is trying to distance itself from Apple in the portable media space, in advance of unveiling their own device to compete with the iPod and PSP.
